Spell Check

Spelling tests weekly on Fridays

Words add the suffix -ing to one syllable words such as snack, mix, play and run. We learned that if a short vowel is followed by only one consonant we “double the fun” to keep the vowel short- meaning RUN becomes RUNNING. But if it already has 2 consonants after the short vowel, we just add suffix -ing as in SNACK-ING. The word PLAY has a long vowel sound made by the -ay so we leave that as is and just add -ing. If a word ends in an e such as TAKE, we “drop the e, then add -ing”.
